Ingredients:
- 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- In a large pot over medium heat, melt 2 tbsp of butter. Stir in the peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer for 5-8 minutes until the liquid thickens into a glossy syrup, then pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk until smooth, then stir in the melted butter.
- Pour the batter evenly over the hot peaches without stirring. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until the top is deep mahogany gold and the syrup bubbles around the edges.
