Ingredients:

  • 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, melt 2 tbsp of butter. Stir in the peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer for 5-8 minutes until the liquid thickens into a glossy syrup, then pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk until smooth, then stir in the melted butter.
  3. Pour the batter evenly over the hot peaches without stirring. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until the top is deep mahogany gold and the syrup bubbles around the edges.
