Ingredients:
- 1.5 lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1/2 cup panko or plain breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 packet beef onion soup mix
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 8 oz sliced baby bella mushrooms
- 2 cups beef broth, low sodium
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 3 tbsp cold water
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, beef onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix gently by hand to avoid overworking the meat.
- Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, each approximately 1 inch thick.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear each patty for 3-4 minutes per side until a deep brown crust forms.
- Place the seared patties in the bottom of a slow cooker.
- Scatter the sliced baby bella mushrooms around and on top of the patties.
- Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce into the slow cooker, ensuring the tops of the patties remain slightly above the liquid.
- Cover and cook on Low for 7-8 hours or High for 4 hours.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water to create a smooth slurry.
- Stir the slurry into the slow cooker liquid.
- Cover and cook on High for an additional 15-30 minutes until the gravy is thick and glossy.
