Ingredients:
- 6 cups (approx. 3 lbs / 1.36kg) Fresh Apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup (150g) Granulated Sugar
- 2 tbsp (16g) Cornstarch
- 1 tbsp (8g) Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) Ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) Salt
- 2 tbsp (28g) Unsalted Butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 package (14.1 oz / 400g) Ready-made refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 large Egg
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Water
- 1 tbsp (8g) Coarse Sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Lightly grease your 9-inch pie dish.
- Roll out the first pie crust and press it firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the dish, leaving a slight overhang. Place the dish on a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until coated.
- Pour the apple filling into the prepared crust, piling the apples slightly higher in the center. Dot the top of the apples with the cubed chilled butter.
- Roll out the second crust and place it over the top, cutting 4-5 slits for steam, or create a lattice. Trim excess dough and crimp the edges to seal.
- Whisk the egg and water together and brush the top crust with the egg wash. Sprinkle coarse sugar evenly across the top.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling juices are bubbling through the vents.
